Navratri, an important festival in the Hindu tradition, spans nine nights and is celebrated for different reasons in various parts of India. The Sharada Navratri is most observed in the honor of the divine Mother Durga who battles and emerges victorious over Mahishasura, a demon in the form of a buffalo. These nine days are solely dedicated to Mother Durga and her nine Avatars - the Navadurga. Each day is associated with an incarnation of the divine Mother.
