Vrishabhanu Dulari is coming, Kirti Kumari is coming, Barsane Wari is coming, our beloved Shree Radha Rani is coming.
There is a sweetness in this anticipation that belongs especially to Radhashtami. One can almost imagine Barsana preparing to welcome its Ladli once again. The sakhis hurry to decorate Her courtyard. Flowers wait to become Her garlands. Anklets wait to embrace Her tender feet. The lanes of Barsana seem ready to awaken with badhai, and every heart that has ever tasted the sweetness of Her name suddenly remembers that Radha Rani’s birthday is near.
And when Shyam’s dearest is about to appear, Braj knows only one way to receive Her. It celebrates.
It sings for Her. It decorates for Her. It prepares Her Jhoola and gathers flowers for Her shringar. It surrounds its Ladli with badhai and calls Her name again and again, as though one "Radhe" once could never contain all the love the heart wishes to offer.
Radhe… Radhe… Radhe…
That same bhav will fill the Radha Krishna Temple of Dallas for Radhashtami 2026, celebrated on Friday, September 18, from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM CST, and Sunday, September 20, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM CST.

Radhashtami: Celebrating the One Who Teaches Us How to Love Shyam
Radha is the one whose name refuses to remain merely upon the lips. Once whispered with love, it somehow finds its way deeper, until “Radhe” begins to feel less like a name we are calling and more like a sweetness the heart has begun to carry. She is Vrishabhanu Dulari, the cherished daughter of King Vrishabhanu; Kirti Kumari, the beloved daughter of Mother Kirti; Barsane Wari, the darling of Barsana; and above all, the one Shyam holds dearest to His heart. Yet even these beautiful names can only begin to touch Her glory.
Radha Rani is the embodiment of the highest selfless divine love, a love in which every movement of Her heart flows toward one desire alone: the happiness of Shyam. Her love does not keep account of what Krishna gives, how He reciprocates, whether Her love will be acknowledged, or whether Her own longing is fulfilled. Shyam’s happiness is Her happiness. His pleasure is Her reward. To see Him pleased is enough for Her heart.
And herein lies one of the sweetest mysteries of Braj. Krishna captivates countless souls, yet Radha's love captivates Krishna. The one whose flute steals the hearts of Braj finds His own heart stolen by Her. The one whom the whole world longs to make its own becomes, before Radha’s love, simply Her Shyam.
Perhaps this is the special sweetness of Radhashtami. On Janmashtami, our hearts rejoice because Shyam appears in this world. On Radhashtami, we celebrate the appearance of the one who reveals the deepest secret of reaching Him.
For the devotee, Radhashtami therefore becomes more than the celebration of Radha Rani’s divine appearance. It becomes an invitation to come near the one who knows Shyam’s heart completely and to learn from Her the sweetest art of bhakti: How to love Her Shyam.
Radha Teaches the Sweeter Secret
Much of our spiritual life is spent longing for Krishna to become ours, yet Radha teaches us the sweeter secret of becoming His.
We long to remain in Shyam’s remembrance; Radha awakens within us the longing to never let Him leave ours. We seek His grace; Radha teaches the heart to seek something sweeter still, the grace of becoming a source of happiness to Him.
We yearn for Krishna’s love, but Radha slowly transforms even that yearning. In Her presence, the heart begins to desire less from Shyam and more for Shyam. It begins to discover a love that does not measure what it receives, does not keep account of how He reciprocates, and does not ask what He will give in return.
This is the sweetness Radha Rani awakens within the heart: not merely the longing to be loved by Shyam, but the longing to learn how to love Him.
This is why we need not wait until our devotion becomes pure before approaching Radha Rani. We come to Her precisely because it is not.
Our love still carries expectations, our surrender still holds conditions, and our remembrance of Shyam is easily scattered by the noise of the world. We say that we want Him, yet the same heart still runs after a hundred other things.
And perhaps this is exactly the heart Radha asks us to bring.
Not the heart we wish we had, but the one we have today: distracted, divided, still learning how to love. We place that unfinished heart before Her and ask for only this grace: that She make it a little more like Hers, until wanting Shyam slowly becomes sweeter than wanting everything else.
Then Radhashtami becomes more than the remembrance of Radha Rani’s divine appearance. It becomes the tender hope that She may appear a little more deeply within our own hearts. Where there are a hundred desires, may She awaken one longing for Shyam. Where the mind repeatedly wanders into the world, may She quietly turn it toward Braj. Where the tongue has spoken endlessly of everything else, may She give it a taste for whispering Radhe… Radhe… Radhe…
And where we still love Shyam partly for what we hope to receive from Him, may Radha teach us the sweetness hidden within Her own heart: to love Him simply because He is Shyam.
Perhaps this is one of Radhashtami’s most intimate gifts. We come celebrating the appearance of Radha Rani in Braj, while quietly praying for another appearance as well: that a little of Radha’s love for Shyam may begin to appear within us.
The Divine Mother Becomes Our Little Ladli
Radhashtami holds another sweetness altogether. Radha Rani is the Divine Mother, the divine power of God, complete in Herself and the shelter of every soul. Yet divine love performs the sweetest reversal: in Her lila, the one upon whom we depend for everything allows Herself to become our little Ladli.
And suddenly, the heart forgets that it came seeking something from Her. Today it wants only to fuss over Her. Her sakhis decorate Her courtyard. Loving hands choose flowers for Her garland and anklets for Her tender feet. Her shringar is prepared with affection, badhai fills the air, and Her Jhoola waits to carry the darling of Barsana. For a little while, the Divine Mother who eternally cares for us gives us the tender joy of feeling that today it is our turn to care for Her.
This is the intimate sweetness of Radhashtami. We may know that Radha Rani lacks nothing yet love still wants to bring Her flowers. We may know that everything already belongs to Her, yet the heart still wants to choose something beautiful for Her birthday. We may know that She is the shelter of the soul, yet when we behold Her as Vrishabhanu and Kirti’s little daughter, another bhav awakens naturally: our Ladli’s birthday has come, and how can we possibly remain still?
This is where utsah, the wholehearted spiritual enthusiasm emphasized by Swami Mukundananda, becomes so beautiful. The flowers, decorations, Jhoola, kirtan, birthday cake, and badhai become more than the outward arrangements of a festival when the heart itself begins participating in Radha Rani’s birthday.
Then Radhashtami begins long before we enter the temple. It begins the moment something within us remembers with affection and anticipation: Our Ladli’s birthday is coming.
Charan Darshan: When All Our Wandering Reaches Her Feet

All year we carry so much within us: expectations that were not fulfilled, attachments we cannot release, ambitions that keep calling us forward, regrets that pull us backward, fears we rarely speak aloud, and prayers whose answers we are still waiting to understand.
Then comes Radhashtami. And before us are Her Charan.
For a few sacred moments, the heart that had searched everywhere is invited simply to become still. The heart bows before the lotus feet of Radha Rani with one tender longing, may it finally learn to remain where it has found refuge.
Abhishek: Radhe, Bathe This Heart Too
Radha Rani's Abhishek brings another intimate sweetness to the Friday celebration. Outwardly, loving hands participate in bathing Her divine form. Inwardly, the devotee may discover that another Abhishek is quietly waiting to take place within the heart.

Jhoolan: Let the Restless Mind Swing Toward Braj
Then comes Jhoolan, filled with the intimacy and sweetness characteristic of Braj bhakti. The beautifully decorated swing reminds us of a world in which the Divine is not loved from a distance, where Radha and Krishna are adorned, sung to, served, teased, remembered, and cherished as those nearest to the heart.
Our own mind is also constantly swinging, one moment toward God and another toward the world, one moment in remembrance and another in forgetfulness, one moment longing for Shyam and another chasing something that will be forgotten by tomorrow. Perhaps on Radhashtami we can allow that restless jhoola of the mind to swing toward Braj and remain there a little longer.
When the Temple Becomes One Voice Calling "Radhe"
Then there is kirtan, and the name begins softly.
Radhe... Radhe...
One voice joins another. Hands begin clapping. Eyes close. Someone who arrived distracted begins singing, while someone who came simply because a family member invited them discovers that "Radhe" has somehow remained upon their tongue. Soon the names of Ladli Ji fill the atmosphere: Vrishabhanu Dulari. Kirti Kumari. Barsane Wari. Shree Radhe.
Little by little, individual voices begin disappearing into collective longing. This is why kirtan is more than devotional music. It is remembrance made audible.

And somewhere between Prem nishkam de and Mohe Shyam se mila de, an ordinary heart begins learning what it means to belong to Braj.
When Love Naturally Becomes Seva
After beholding Her feet, celebrating Her appearance, swinging Her Jhoola, singing Her name and hearing Her glory, another feeling may naturally arise: "Radhe, may I do something for You?" That is where seva becomes beautiful, not as obligation, not as transaction, not as proof of devotion but simply love seeking expression before the Beloved.

When if forgets Shyam, awaken His remembrance within it. When pride enters devotion, make it humble again. And whenever it loses the path to Him, take it by the hand and lead it to Your Shyam.
Vrishabhanu Dulari, I do not dare ask for the love that fills Your heart. But from that boundless ocean of Your love for Shyam, let just one tiny drop fall into mine. I have no pure heart to place at Your feet, Radhe. I have only this distracted, imperfect, unfinished one. Please accept it anyway.
Then perhaps the greatest gift of this Radhashtami will not be anything I offered You. It will be what You did with the heart I left at Your feet. And if You grant me only one blessing, Radhe, let it be this: Make me Yours, and once it becomes Yours, Radhe, teach me how to belong completely to Your Shyam.
