Whenever and wherever the restless and unsteady mind wanders, one should bring it back and continually focus it on God.

Setting goals for the New Year is important because it (1) provides a clear direction for our life, (2) increases motivation to get started, (3) helps us prioritize actions, and (4) allows us to measure progress toward achieving significant personal or professional aspirations. Collectively, these lead to a more fulfilling year and future by proactively shaping our path ahead of time. Let’s do it!
Bhakti RasSadhana is a disciplined spiritual practice focused on elevating devotional sentiments with a desire to unite the mind with God. It is the cornerstone of a fulfilling and purposeful life.
Shree Krishna explained Yog Sadhana to Arjun by highlighting the importance of practice to keep his mind steady in meditation. Even though it is difficult to restrain the mind, it can be controlled by practice and detachment. Whenever the mind wanders to the worldly realm, one must bring it back and continue to focus on the divine realm. Then the mind will purify and establish in transcendence, a joyous state where one experiences infinite divine bliss.
Sadhana purifies the soul by removing the impurities accumulated through material attachments and distractions. Swami Mukundananda ji explains, “When we engage in sadhana with devotion, it acts as a divine cleanser, purifying our mind and heart.” This purification is achieved through consistent practices such as meditation, prayer, and chanting. These practices align our thoughts and emotions with higher spiritual principles. Through sadhana, the soul gradually becomes free of negativity, paving the way for divine qualities like love, compassion, and selflessness to blossom. Just as regular exercise strengthens the body, regular sadhana revitalizes the soul, enabling us to perceive life through the lens of higher consciousness and divine wisdom.
By dedicating time to spiritual practices such as meditation, chanting, and scriptural study, we purify the mind, strengthen our connection with God, and foster inner transformation. Let us make this a goal for 2025.

Bal-Mukund: Playground for Vedic Wisdom
Matajuro Yagyu, the son of a famous Samurai sword fencer, was disowned as a student by his father for lacking sufficient talent. Matajuro went to Mount Futara to study under the famous sword master Banzo, who tested him and deemed him lacking as well. Matajuro asked how long it would take him to master the art if he were fully committed and Banzo replied that it would take at least twenty years. Next, Matajuro promised to commit to learning faster but Banzo said it would take at least forty years. Then Matajuro vowed to put his sleep at stake to reduce his learning time and Banzo said it would take sixty years.
Matajuro was puzzled by the increasing time. Banzo explained that focusing on the results and how long it would take would prevent him from being fully present at any moment. Understanding this, Matajuro surrendered to Banzo and sought guidance.

Banzo then instructed Matajuro to perform menial tasks around the monastery. For eighteen months, Matajuro was involved in cleaning, cooking, gardening, and washing clothes without receiving any training.
One day, Banzo, leapt up from behind and whacked Matajuro with a stick. Matajuro screamed and Banzo told him to remain alert, as he would strike any moment. Banzo struck Matajuro expectedly many times a day until his absent-minded state started dissolving.
As Matajuro developed awareness of the present moment, his focus improved, and he was able to perceive the slightest movement, the slightest fall of the footsteps, and the stick as it whizzed through the air. Eventually, he could turn around and block the stick before it landed. Seeing Matajuro’s progress, Banzo began teaching him advanced techniques. Matajuro went on to become one of Japan's most famous sword fencers.

Time is one of the most valuable resources we have, but it’s so easy to waste it. When we scroll on our phones or delay the start of homework we actually squander our productivity time and allow procrastination to rule us. Let’s explore three creative ways we can spend our time more wisely and make each moment count.

Let’s remember that time is a gift, and how we use it our time shapes our life and future. By being intentional and mindful about the effective use of our time, we can achieve more, enjoy more, and grow more every single day.
Holistic Health TitbitsAs the new year begins, many of us are excited to embrace a fresh start. In January, gyms are packed with new members eager to get in shape. By March, gym attendance often drops sharply. We may decide to cut out ultra-processed foods. But after a few weeks, old habits creep back in and diminish our willpower. Why does this happen?
One of the key reasons our health resolutions fail is that people need to set more realistic goals. The best way to set achievable fitness goals is using the “S.M.A.R.T.” framework. This stands for: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. Instead of saying, “I want to get fit,” say: “I will do yoga for 30 minutes, three times a week, for the next month.” Starting with small helps us avoid feeling overwhelmed and allows us to have steady progress. We can adjust our goals as we get more comfortable with the routine. Aim to improve using the 1% Rule each day whether it is to increase the weights we lift or eliminate a sugary snack from our diets.
Swami Mukundananda reminds us of the science that shows it takes 21 days to establish a new habit. By sticking to a routine for three weeks, our workouts and diet will start feeling more natural, and we will be less likely to give up after the initial excitement wears off. Generally, we start noticing changes in our energy, strength, and overall well-being within a few weeks. Accountability is crucial when it comes to sticking with our goals. A few ways to stay accountable: find a workout buddy, join a wellness community, or use an app to track progress. You can schedule workouts into a calendar and do weekly meal planning and shopping.
While trying something new can be exciting, new things are also challenging to sustain. Be selective about the new things you begin. Avoid jumping on every new fitness bandwagon. Instead, focus on new activities that align with your personal needs (e.g., strength training, yoga, cutting sugar intake, or eating more veggies). Finding new things we enjoy doing increases the likelihood of sticking with it. The more we practice, the more natural a new lifestyle choice becomes. Improving fitness and healthy eating is not about perfection, it’s about incremental progress. Establishing new routines and committing to gradual improvements is your best chance for success.
The key to success is to start small, stay consistent, and not be afraid to ask for help when needed. Set your S.M.A.R.T. goals today and commit to building healthy habits that last 1% at a time! Your future self will thank you.

There is a lot of significance associated with Jagadguruttam Diwas for JKYog devotees.
Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj, the 5th original Jagadguru in Indian history, descended on the beautiful Sharad Poornima night in October 1922, in the village of Mangarh in North India. Even as a child, Maharajji displayed signs of divinity as recounted by His family members and close associates. In 1957, at the very young age of 34 years, Shree Maharajji was venerated with the title of Jagadguruttam by the Kashi Vidvat Parishat. Since then, January 14th has been celebrated as Jagadguruttam Diwas. Shree Maharajji, the personification of the nectar of divine love, has inspired millions toward bhakti marg.
JKYog and the Radha Krishna Temple of Dallas (Allen) are thrilled to announce the celebration for the 68th Jagadguruttam Diwas on January 14, 2025. There are numerous devotional, uplifting, inspirational, and fun events planned that you do not want to miss.
